Models are an important part of fashion. They display the creations of fashion designers by wearing the outfit, shoes or carrying off the accessory. The models who work specifically to showcase the various creations of the fashion designers are termed as runway models. They are also known by the name of live models. The runway models are required to work on cross-locations especially for the various major Fashion Weeks that are held across the various cities of the world. Models that adorn the runways are both male and female.
The runway models, both male and female need some specific height and weight measurements in order to be eligible as models. The AMA dictates the vital statistics of female models should be 34” chest, 24” waist and 34” hips whereas the in case of male models the chest measurements should vary between 39 to 40 inches and waist should be between 29 to 32 inches. The height of a female model should be between 5’8” and 5’11”. In case of male models, it should between 5’11” and 6’2”.
Along with the height and body proportions, the models should have facial features that are attractive as well as have healthy hair and clear skin. The stringent specifications have caused many models to develop serious eating disorders like anorexia, which had some dire consequences on the models like death, severe malnutrition, etc. Most of the major fashion houses and designers have banned reed-thin models from their runway shows in order to fight against the prevailing eating disorders.
